Globiuz Game: the Past, the Future and the Series
Globiuz Game: the Past, the Future and the Series
Grand Coders is a former game developer founded by R.L. Douglas who created 2 titles: World of Ferania (later re-titled Globiuz) and Doc Dodgers. Both games were 3D platformers with pencil-drawn characters. It was built in Unreal Engine 4 — a giant platform from Epic Games which in 2015 allowed any newcomer to use the engine on royalty-based terms.
THE BOOKLET WITH THE GAME SCREENSHOTS
The World of Ferania game was a nice looking platformer spanning in the early drafts of the Globiuz fantasy universe, which now is the book fantasy series. The game looked artsy and hand-drawn, except for the custom 3D models made in Blender. It was even categorized as JRPG on many marketing platforms.
Main Characters
The main character of the Globiuz game was a young Crustacean crab in a cape. He had punching melee attacks in a classic arcade style. The engine allowed smooth jumps and even teleportation at certain doors.
Doc Dodgers
Doc Dodgers on the other hand was a futuristic, urban platformer taking place in mega-cities. The detective-looking dog in a coat tries to pass through hoards of aliens attacking the planet, his goal was to find the source of invasion.
The Past Mistakes Were Leanred
While building the Globiuz game we understood some concepts we would have never repeated today:
- not understanding a demand for the product
- failing to expose the product
- not understanding game player psychology and other nuances of the market
It is not enough just to make a good-looking game and throw it against the wall. Game marketing has the same Hollywood scale — you can't sell just any movie, you must convince millions.
